This was the first thought, then after some modelling it appeared that with R-loaded 6SL7 I won't get more than 1:(35+35) gain @1mA per tube. Besides, all the 6sl7 available around - I live in Russia - are quite microponic. But there is at least a hundred of pentode types around for pennies, some look very linear on paper, especially the high-transconductance types.
I'm sort of hooked to pentodes now - recently rewired my small 6V6 SET from triode to pentode, and what an improvement!
