Hi Mike. I'm currently using an Audible Illusions Modulus 3 single ended preamp into an S-30 with wonderful results. You will need shorting plugs for the balanced inputs on the amps which I'm sure Atma-Sphere can supply (my amp came with them in place) Regarding comparisons, this is difficult as you would need a preamp with both single ended and balanced input/outputs with the same brand single ended and balanced cables for a true comparison. I've actually taken the MP-3 plunge but it is currently on static display awaiting a balanced phono cable. I'd be happy to forward my impressions once everything is up and running but again, this will be a different preamp with upgraded balanced cables making comparisons between single ended vs. balanced dificult at best.
