I own the following 6SN7s in various quantities:Sylvania 6SN7W metal base tall bottle 1940s
Sylvania VT-231 tall bottle 1940s
Sylvania 6SN7W black base short bottle late 1950s
Raytheon VT-231 brown base 1940s
Raytheon 6SN7GT black base early 1950s
RCA 5692 red base early 1950s to early 1960s
Hytron/CBS 5692 brown base early 1950s to early 1960s
Mullard CV1988 tall bottle smoke glass early 1970s
Ken-Rad VT-231 clear glass 1940s
Tung-Sol 6SN7GT smoke glass, round plates 1940s
RCA VT-231 smoke glass 1940s
Assorted cheapies (mostly GTBs), spares, and of course, Sovteks 1960s and onward for the cheapies and spares. As an example of how tubes sound different depending on the equipment: my favorite tubes in the VK-60 are, surprisingly, the Ken-Rads. In fact, it's no contest. With the M60s OTOH, I prefered the Sylvania metal base and Hytron 5692s, depending on mood. Unfortunately, I did not have the Tung-Sols while I owned the M60s, so I can't comment on that potential matchup.
The Brimars and Mullards are very similar, they may even be OEM'd from them, so I have no reason to believe my Mullards are any different from your early 70s Brimars. I have not heard the earlier Mullard/Brimars, nor any of the premium CV181/ECC32/ECC33s being hawked by Brendan Biever. Too rich for my blood, even if they do sound good.
