There's no way I'm going to read that article, but as Claud1 says, horns can deliver the most credible rendition of a live performance.
So, perhaps the question should be "Why doesn't everyone (even "audiophiles"!) use horns?" Price is one answer as good horn speakers are costly - and big. Also, the majority of people buying speakers don't address (or even consider) the first and most important decision with this important item. The No 1 decisions is to choose the right TYPE of speaker to suit their listening room and musical interest. Most will instinctively go for conventional box speakers, but perhaps horns, electrostatics, or omnis would be better in their rooms.
I've used horns since 2002, but I almost convinced myself that electrostatics would perhaps be better, after listening to a friend's great Quad-based system. Unfortunately the Martin Logans I bought fell way short of expectations in my room, despite sounding great in the showroom. They simply didn't like my room's physical features.
Because my speakers are placed mid-room with dining and kitchen areas behind the speakers, omnis would in theory be the best TYPE of speaker in my room. However, after demo'ing the 2 main brands of omnis, I discovered a big disadvantage - their imaging was poor compared with horns. Since it is the exceptional imaging that well set-up horns can deliver that results in their life-like rendition of music, this was a feature I wasn't prepared to compromise with. So I kept my horns (twice upgraded) with their great life-like music and have to accept their small sweet-spot and their distinct loss of top-end when I'm using areas of the room behind the speakers.
So, for me, horns are what I most enjoy despite their small disadvantages in some respects.
