I saw this auction and wondered the same thing myself. They look a bit like a home brew job, but the same thing could be said about many Lowthers I suppose. Not a criticism, as Home Brew Can Be Good.The early Voigt drivers upon which the Lowthers are based were field coil, but the motors were much larger, roughly the diameter of the cone.
