Hi,
I think that the square basket is from the 1960's through to the early 1970's. Early ones had rubber surrounds. Later units were foam. The early square basket Lowther's like these with the rubber surround were supposed to be the best sounding.Certainly of the dozen or so pairs i have owned over the years, the two pairs with rubber surrounds i preferred to the others.
It say's Pm6 stamped into the side of the basket and Rullit makes beautiful modifications to existing drivers and his own creations so I believe he has used an original cone and basket of a generic 1960's lowther PM6 and added his own surround (looks rougher than the various lowther surrounds i have seen). I suspect the foam rotted so he put his own in. If they were rubber originally, you would probably keep them that way as the rubber drivers are worth more.
He then probably added a field coil with a gap which was useable with the lowther coil.
So i think the driver would probably sound beautiful if you are into the Lowther type approach to music making, but is made by Rullit. He is very careful in the language he uses in describing the driver which also leads credence to this.
JMHO,
