Somma y'all must listen at some rather high vols? By dint of luck, I find my current implementation (we'll use a saying other than the cat's meow) ummm we'll ..... wonderfully satisfying. Standard form factor in Hi-Eff seems to be lowish x-overs, perhaps bi-amping, possibly elec x-overs, or of course three ways, etc.
Using one wide range driver on O.B., with no inductor, and a first order on the tweet. Is easy, fun (goofy in fact). The music is sublime. Yes, started my speaker explorations as a 'fullranger'. So yeah, I understand some being gun shy about minimal or simplistic executions. I'm more than happy, so have no qualms whatsoever about recommending others give open baflle a try/eval/whirl in whatever fashion. If they have a hankerin' to explore.
No, haven't heard/tried the fifteens [but (as already noted) find the similar twelves, in my rig, tasty]. Haven't run the Stereophile II disc since slapping 'em in baffles. So couldn't tell you the exact spot the bottom falls off. But in the context of the music, the presentation lacks nothing.
