thanks jean michel-- that's funny to think things got worse.. must be more parts causing havoc!

well-- my wishes to add more parts to my crossover are few, and i just did a routine maintenance on my amp only to find my power tubes were crackling audibly when i touched them in the amp.. so i pulled everything out, cleaned up, reinstalled having rotated the tires, so to speak, and it's been much quieter and less problematic since, best i can tell. the crossover sounds good.. maybe like i said on an aside, it was unrelated to the crossover!

so far so good.. but thanks for the note on RC filters! goes to show engineering can't fix everythinhg, i suppose!
