OK. Sorry, but more questions: by "portable system" and "for playing back music", do you mean for:

==> loud use (public preformances, busking, whatever)
==> quiet personal use (like quiet background music on fishing trips)

if the former, I'd suggest something new and high-powered. If the latter, I'd go cheap + vintage.
