Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

Re: First HE speaker project

It's a classic combination, with unbelievable history behind it. The D130 was designed to be "fullrange", though it falls some 10dB at around 2.5kHz and is pretty ragged above there. Leo Fender used it in guitar amps, but it is only the later D130H (if I remember the numbers right) that was modified for guitar use. The very similar 130A had a paper dustcap but was otherwise.

Check out the Lansing Heritage site for lots of information. The basic high-efficiency 15" woofer crossing to a 1" throat tweeter at 1200Hz goes back to the Iconic - check out the LMCo. library!

The N1200 works best with the slant-plate lens (HL91, iirc), but the LE175DLH (the "potato masher" horn) also works well. The crossover is designed to work with the horn length time delay - if you use other horns with this crossover, try to keep the LE175 set back the same amount.

If you are using SETs or other amps with significant output impedance, you can use a larger cabinet and get deeper bass than the usual designs which assume large damping factors.

I have a pair of 2220s (the last incarnation of the 130A) in boxes of 2.5 cubic feet, running down to maybe the mid-60s. A pair of cheap subs lend some authority but are not essential to appreciate good music. I use the larger 2445 driver crossed at 800Hz, but I have a pair of 175s and will try them at 1200 one of these days.
