Look I love vintage tube amps. Look where I have been posting. But 99% of the vintage preamp stages suck. Buy a vintage power amp if you want tubes but do yourself a favor and get something like a foreplay for a preamp. Actually if you listen to CD's consider a transformer based volume control.The 6v6 will sound better, then el84, then el34. I run a triode strapped 6v6 good for all of 3 watts downhill. But it has balls:) That said if buying look at el84 cuz not many offer 6v6 in class a triode. But Eric Kingsbury does:)
