I understand that the DSD stream is sent to DSD1790 when the filter is off. However, from block diagram of DSD1790 it appears that everything goes through a delta-sigma modulator prior to conversion to analog. This suggests that 1790 is not handling the DSD stream in the same way as some other DACs, such as Cirrus 4398 used in Marantz DV7600 and 9600. I would be very interested to know what Denon has to say about this. It also appears that many Burr-Brown DAC's, e.g., PCM1794 and 1796, also operate this way internally. On the other hand, Sony players often convert any PCM signal to DSD prior to conversion, therefore may have excellent SACD play but less than optimal CD playback.
