I made an email inquiry to Denon about this when I first got my unit almost three years ago. I was told that the DVD 2900 uses separate processors for the DVD-Audio (PCM) and SACD (DSD) streams. However if you engage bass management in the 2900 it does indeed convert the DSD stream to PCM prior to conversion to analog. In order to prevent this you must go into the speaker menu set up mode and underneath the Speaker Size selection turn OFF the filter. This will keep the DSD stream pure until analog conversion.
