Lately, I've been breaking in a 2-channel tubed preamp, so I'm doing a lot of 2 channel listening. My 2 channel source, amplification, and cabling are of higher quality than when I go Multichannel.Nevertheless, I tend to prefer multichannel. My latest comparisons have been with Dire Straits "Brother in Arms". I really liked the 2-channel version (especially with the tubed pre), but the multichannel was preferred. Multichannel also tends to be a winner with classical but the rear/center "inferior" components still seem to hold things back a bit.
