The Cambridge does upconversion of video to 720p or 1080i. By default, the MP3 playback is not enabled (apparently there was some sort of licensing issue), but I did find the hack for this online which works to enable the MP3 playback (I tried it with one we had in stock and the hack worked). There was no mention of HDCD in the literature, but I do remember HDCD coming up on screen once when I inadvertently but in a disc that was HDCD encoded. So, it obviously recognizes and decodes HDCD.Yes, the feature sets are very similar but I'm not sure if that is where the similarity ends or not. I haven't heard the Oppo, so I can't really make a comparison, but I just wanted to correct the information you presented. All I can say for sure is that we've been extremely impressed with the DVD89 for the money.
