Using Onkyo SP1000 with a 2ch analog preamp

Hello,
I am considering the Onkyo SP1000 to add a high end DVD player, 2ch SACD, and 2ch DVD capability to my system.
I am assuming the way I would hook this is up running an RCA cable from the "downmix" analog audio outs... is this right? Is this the right way to hook up for 2 ch DVD, SACD, and DVD A? Or is this a serious audio comprimise from using some digital output to some sort of processor/preamp?
