Its very interesting your opinion re distaning is similair to mine and quite a few others and I also favour it above 25 or so other mahler 5ths....However some criticise the Close up recording of too many mikes of Membrans releases.? Shipway also does an excellent Shosky 10..I am interested in your views of Sib 2 as this has again got extreme opinions like Borodins 2.on this label.The Berloiz Fantastique is just that...Ive still got it in stereo the wrong way around..but the overtures played brilliantly were far too brash and I suspect the Wagner disc you may also find edges that way..
One thing I forgot to mention which is Very annoying is the very very very short gaps between tracks.plus poor balancing of levels..A fabulous Planets suite is followed immediatly by a St Pauls suite for strings at almost the same level as loudest part of the Planets.Im pretty sure you will like the English string music discs and Gorecki 3./Taverner Veil.I only wish they would release the Beethoven tenth / rare works disc on its own..
