The default values for the T(ime) A(lignment) settings are in the manual on page 20.I discovered it while I was experimenting with Bass Management and Time Alignment controls. I found out the extra brightness when I took the TA out of their default values. Then, I started to play with the Bass Management settings as well. Selecting MchSP Mode to (2) 5 Large + SW (DSD-to-PCM) gave me the same sonic results as leaving it to (1) Mch DIRECT with the TA different to their default values: A violent increase in level and roughness of the high frequency region. Also, the DSD warmth is totally absent.
I had a Philips 963SA with a setting for DSD Direct. Whet it was set to OFF, the player convert DSD to PCM to perform BM and TA but the result was quite different to the C2000ES. The Philips got brighter but it wasn't rough. And the Philips had far better soundstage in DSD-to-PCM than in its DSD Direct mode. Probably because of the disparity of DACs employed. Go figure...
As someone else pointed out, the C2000ES sound in DSD-to-PCM is way crude and rough. To me is simply unlistenable. On the C2000ES, MchSP Mode = (1) Mch DIRECT and all SPK DIST = 10 is the only way to go if you want good sound.
