I also think this is the reason.I am not exactly sure about the Sony DSD processors, but the new Philips Furore 2 as used in many current SACD players (including SOTA digital and the new top line Sony DVP-NS9100ES, strange isn’t it?) is really a "smart" little thing. It can take DSD and convert it to PCM, it can take PCM and convert it to DSD. It can also take DSD, convert it to PCM, perform all the time alignment and bass management and then convert it back to DSD. So the end result is "true" DSD. :) I’d assume this is what you call “without conversion to PCMâ€. :)
