An amateur classical musician myself, I'm amazed at the lack of discrimination among very accomplished musicians when it comes to acoustic reproduction. Most artists, like the rest of the population, won't notice the improvements Hi-Rez offers, and couldn't care less.Just last year, there was a LONG discussion at maestronet.com (one of the main boards for violin family instruments) about the relative merits of stereo recordings. Most stated that they really didn't think it was necessary, and several were adamant that mono was superior. For many of these people, their "Main System" is a boombox.
I've known guitarists and violinists far better than me who couldn't even hear the differences between different brands of strings. All they care about is the mechanical "feel" and big volume.
They tend to be far more concerned about the things that they can control, such as technique and artistic interpretation, which is as it should be, I suppose.
