They certainly should sound way better than opamps...Ain't that the truth. Transformer outputs are fairly simple to implement too as they don't need their own power supply, which for state of the art active outputs can be fairly involved and fairly expensive as well to get right. Just find a place to mount the transformers, add a few wires and filtering capacitors and you're done. Of course it helps to have a magnetics genius like Dave Slagle winding the iron for you....
I still intend to add the Vacuum State stand-alone clock to my player, I just need to remodel my house first...
