In this months Hi-Fi World there is an overview of digital music. The final paragraph on DVD-A / SACD includes:Here we are in 2006 ...with two moribund formats.
...the new HD-DVD does not support DVD-A
...Blue Ray does not support DSD
...Sony/BMG have all but given up on SACD ...releasing Non-DVDA Dual Discs
...Universal have intimated that the Moody Blues will be their last SACD releases
...EMI are ominously silent. The magazines opinion is that while SACD is technically 'obviously' flawed it sounded better.
The digital future before us seems to be dominated by compressed formats.
Vinyl has been able to build a niche position, but had huge market dominance for many years.....I wonder whether SACD will be able to carry on? DVD-A I already consider as buried.....although at least you can burn your own.
