New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Enjoying it while I can

First, no flames please. we are all music lovers, and this format thing is not a religion.

Let's face it, our breed is becoming endangered species. I have close to 150 SACDs give or take. (and about 20 DVD-As) But every sign tells me that both high res formats are going nowhere fast.

Recently, I see SACDs going for heavy discounts everywhere in Hong Kong. SACDS that I bought for good money before are going for $100 (USD13) everywhere. But I am buying lots while I can, bought Getz/Gilberto, Ray brown Trio Live at the LOA, Lang Lang Rach 3 and a few more yesterday.

And Hong Kong is a place where SACDs are relatively prominent. Partly due to the fact that Hong Kong people are more receptive towards new things. But the format is simply not selling. The feud with DVD-A does not help either.

There is the attached Save SACD partition online. but what is the point? Commercial organizations look at sales, not minorities like us pleading online.

It is unfortunalte. But as I type this, I am listening to music that I ripped to my hard disk (1000 CDs plus), playing through the wonderful Slim Devices Squeezebox 2 network music player.

Makes me sometimes I wonder what all the fuss is about. As long as I can listen to music, the rest is just bonus.
