HowdyWell there are certainly some manufacturers who went to ridiculous lengths to give their customers the choice on whether to use the Pacific Microsonics digital filters or not. The SimAudio Eclipse for example has a digital out and digital in and provide a jumper to bypass the Pacific Microsonics digital filters. One wonders why they would do that if they thought that "[the Pacific Microsonics digital filters] were the best available for non-HDCD material." It seems more likely that Pacific Microsonics either contractually or in hardware restricted you from having an option to bypass the filters and SimAudio believed they could do better (and to my ears they were definitely correct.)
