5 inches SACD height plus 1 1/2 inches breathing room on top (=) 7 inches (+) 1/2 inch thickness of each shelf (=) 7 inches (x) 2 for two shelves (=) 14 inches. Each shelf hold 26 SACDs (x) 2 (=) 52 SACDsVersus
12 inches LP height plus 1 1/2 inches breathing room on top (=) 13 1/2 inches (=) 1.2 inch thickness of one shelf (=) 14 inches. One shelf holds 70 LPs.
The LPs set flush with the front of the shelf; the SACDs set further back. Remember even though LPs are 12 inches versus 5 inches LPs are about 2/3 thinner than SACD cases.
As I said I have 3 shelving systems and have room for no more, so I will be purging the rest of my life and I never want to quit buying new recordings. It's the thrill of a new recording. And at this point LPs are the most thrilling. I got back into SACDs because of a tubed SACD player and was hoping for the sound of analog with SACDs without the problems of vinyl. Some SACDs have gotten close but nothing sounds more analog than actual analog formats, blisters and all.
If I had room for another storage unit, I would not buy another one that didn't hold LPs! My DVD-Movie Bookcase does not have adjustable shelves and will not hold LPs!
Happy listening,
Teresa
