I won't know what precentage of recordings inclusive of MCH would inmates feel were done correctly in the first place. That said, it may be entirely possible it would be the recordings utilized regardless of the equipment.I think it necessary to start addressing specifc recordings in these MCH versus 2 channel discussions. Not only that but where do they feel a specific recording stacks up against others they consider are top notch for MCH.
One I can think of that I'd like to start with is the widely held LS Munch Saint Saens Organ symphony and an inmate's opinion with it in MCH versus 2 channel and their overall preference.
I'll throw another recording out there. That being the Goldsmith Film Music recording. Now this one is a far cry IMHO of being subtle with the sense of surround I feel I'm hearing with other recordings.
For a better lack of definition, one should cup their hands behind their ears and listen to a portion of a track of a two channel recording. Then try it again removing their hands. The soundstage lost in the first instance is overwhelming IMHO just with two channel alone. MCH done right increases the soundstage that much more over and above that, not with any more of a feeling than that rather than hearing music coming from behind you!
