The VC24+ is used.in the SONY models: DVP-S9000ES, SCD-C333ES and the European./Asian XB940. It takes the encrypted SACD signal and the PCM RBCD signal and converts them both into a pure de-encrypted bitstream signal.Three larger & more expensive SONY players from that period, the SCD-1/SCD-777ES and the European/Asian SCD-555ES. use two chips, the VC24 and the S-TACT to do the same job that the VC24+ chip does in one:
We have found that the S-TACT chip in the larger machines is needed for RBCD processing - but it seriously degrades the sonic quality of the SACD signal. This is the basis of our Level 5+ Upgrade for these three machines - the S-TACT is switched out of the signal path for SACD but switched back in for RBCD playback.
The players that use only the VC24+ chip do not offer this possibility - but actually can sound better on SACD than one of the big three with the S-TACT left in circuit.
