Faulty math is used on this site, if their measurements are to be believed then DualDiscs and CDs are close to the same thickness! This is not true and can be proved by actually measuring the discs themselves. For the benefit of readers who do not know the metric system:
Millimeter (mm) 0.001 meter
Micrometer (um) 0.000001 meter
1000 micrometers (um) (=) 1 millimeter (mm)If you use their twisted logic and take the 1.2mm for the Polycarbonate Plastic Substrate add 0.1um (0.0001mm) for the aluminum coating and 200um (.2mm) for the acrylic protective layer (=) 1.4001mm plus the label which is usually very thin silk-screened maybe another 0.0001mm (=) 1.4002mm. This is impossible No CDs, SACDs, or DVD-Audio's are that thick! All actual measurement of CDs, SACDs, DVD-Audio's all come it at 1.2mm for the total disc.
All equipment including yours is designed to play 1.2mm discs, period. Until DualDisc was introduced that is all they had to play.
They are also wrong the spec is 1.2mm + 0.3mm - 0.1mm. I believe it should be an even tighter spec 1.2mm ± .05mm to reduce jitter and wobble to it's absolute minimum.
Do not fall into the DualDisc trap. You are an engineer you really should be smarter than this!
DVD players, CD players, SACD players are being damaged by DualDisc. DualDiscs are getting stuck in players. DualDiscs are causing players to make excessive transport noise. DualDiscs are scratched by the upper part of the disc tray because they are too thick!
There is not other explaination DualDisc is a defective format and should be discontinued now!!!!
Use your head Martin! I own a DVD-Audio player, if DualDiscs were safe I would buy them. Since they are not safe I will not risk my equipment on the DualDisc folly! No DualDisc will enter my DVD-Audio only REAL HONEST TO GOD DVD-Audios.
