I agree that the Cleveland is the best I've heard in the US. I've seen the CSO a few times and while they are of course very impressive, I didn't always hear the same level of 'cohesive' ensemble that I did with the Cleveland (one hearing only), and I didn't care for the balances at times. The NYPO has never really bowled me over but I need to hear them more, as I really do with all these groups. I'm just commenting based on the few times I've heard them.Actually, for string ensemble, the Curtis Orchestra is incredible! I saw them do Sibelius 2 and ALL the strings were as ONE. PERIOD. Scary good. The winds weren't at the same level that night, though they were still quite good (not up to Big 5 level, at least across the board). And a great price, too!
