nreddy:I share your skepticism but I must admit that I believe that I hear a subtle, but noticeable and predictable improvement from my disc washing. Here is my logic for the improvement.
The laser operates most effectively if its beam passes through the polycarbonate surface encountering as little refraction as possible. Anything between the laser lens and the surface of the polycarbonate has the potential to increase refraction. Anything left behind on the surface from the disc pressing process has the potential to increase refraction. Removable of that substance improves reproduction, noticeable in critical listening on high resolution systems..... that be us.
