I have now turned to Amazon to get my SACD, usually through the link on sa-cd.net to support that site. I am surprised by the big discount available on their "marketplace" relative to buying on-line from big-name french shops. The best prices are from discount US exporters. So I now wonder: are these low prices an injustice to the artists? If I pay $14 (postage incl) for an SACD from the US, instead of EUR25 ($30) locally, is less going to the artist and the record company? Or is the small margin wholly for the discount retailer and the middle chain? Is the income up the chain somehow related to the selling price?
I hope I am not participating in the trend to make recording and releasing new albums less viable... I hope I am just cutting out some fat distribution margins.
If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Christophe
