RE: Best Monitor headphones for $100 or less?!

I recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50. I use them and they are better than the Sennheiser HD 280. I am not a fan of the Sony's. The Sony V-6 was (maybe still is?) the go to monitor headphone and they suck. Every V-6 I tried literally hurt my ears. I am talking sound, not comfort. The AT's have excellent bass. You will not regret your purchase. FYI AT offers them in a coiled cable or straight cable. I have, and prefer the straight cable. Let us know what you get and your experience once you receive them.
