These are first-generation players, and like all first-gen items, they are limited in what they do.It took almost two years after SACD and DVD-Audio were introduced before there was a "universal" player available. It only did 2-ch SACD, and it listed at $6000.
Just because a first-gen Blu-ray video player isn't a "universal" player doesn't mean there won't be Blu-ray or HD-DVD-based "universal" players in the future.
