Can't speak for Seas (I do have Joseph Audio Pulsars though)...

But WAY back in the day when CES was a 'thing' among audio shows, I spent some time chatting up the Vifa/ScanSpeak folks.

Had access to a decent woodworking shop and was futzing about with speaker building creating nothing of any value it turns out.

All the speaker building companies bought drivers from the major manufacturers claiming HUGE differences between their 'proprietary', custom designs and what the great unwashed could buy off-the-shelf from the various manufacturers, or so they said.

The company I worked for at the time had some insignificant presence in the 'consumer electronic' markets which got me to Las Vegas on company business and it happened that we spelled the company name, by chance, VERY close to that of a major player in the audio markets. But I still have no idea why the guy was so open about drivers I could purchase to my specification (and it was not 10's of thousands).

Cones and magnets were pretty much standard, but one had choices there, IIRC. The big changes they offered to make for an OEM driver seemed to involved the winding of the voice-coil which changed the driver characteristics drastically, or so the guy said. Not knowing all that much about the subject all of the charts and TS parameters he showed me of magnets, cones and voice coil combinations on offer meant little, but I left with the distinct impression that somehow, even with ~ 8 ohm impedance, drivers could be quite different in performance based on how they wound the voice coil?

OK, 20 years ago and I wasn't very smart then either. :-(

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass
