It's an often used excuse and likely not often true.
A buddy of mine who flips watches adds the line "Make sure your wife approves before you commit" to his listings.
What I've never understood is why guys would pick such a wussy excuse. I bet guys who actually have a deal nixed by their wife make up a less embarrassing excuse.

The "experts" I knew at keeping wifey in the dark on their spending habits were into performance cars. A lot of what they spent was buried unseen deep in the engine. They'd launder money their friends or have a secret bank account. That's just a few of their secretive methods, but the money spent was far more than I would consider spending on an audio component. When I was married, I found it was much easier to be upfront on a purchase. Of course my opening line was "you won't believe how much money I saved".
