Need to dig out my Bluesbreaker albums and give a listen.
Follow Ups:
I saw John twice. In what had to be the greatest night at the SF Filmore that I ever attended...Albert King...Bluesbreakers with Mick Taylor as his guitarist...and then some guy named Hendrix. All three acts played twice. I paid $3.50 for the event. Things were simpler. The 2nd time was in Berkeley in 1975 or 76.
Tom B.
Mayall pretty routinely moved through a cast of excellent guitar players. In the early "aughts" he appeared here in Texas quite a bit with Texas based guitarist Buddy Whitington as his lead guitarist.
They even played small clubs and dance halls here in the Texas Hill Country and I got to see them live twice. I saw them at Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas just 18 miles from my home.
RIP to John Mayall.
Buddy Whittington is an absolute monster guitarist, deserving of wider recognition. Haven't heard much from him lately. Hope he is doing okay.
My thoughts are with Mayall, but thanks for the reminder about Buddy W.
. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .
I heard Mayall and Bluesbreakers on FM at the end of the '60s, then picked up their "Turning Point" album. Mayall was a leader in British blues and influenced many other artists.
My favorite track from that album was "California" so I looked for the link of that to post. The original in on YouTube but I also found this link where Polo give his reaction to an initial listen. I agreed with his comment that anyone who enjoys this type of music can list to this again and again.
"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing, if you can fake that you've got it made." Groucho
The lyrics to California are bland and stupid.
Agree the lyrics were not inspiring, but I loved the instrumentation and performances.
