Heathkit had two noteworthy Altec variants.
Early on, there was the "Heathkit Altec Legato" with two 12 inch woofers and an 811B horn and driver.
Later, there was a Valencia 846A variant (with, as best I know, a different XO than the bona fide "A" morph Valencia).
all the best,

Yeah, I had a pair of the AS-21s, they both looked and sounded gorgeous. Somewhere along the line I replaced the 804 compression driver with a GPA 902 and it sounded better. Maybe?
The 902 probably has better HF extension. The original 800 series drivers were designed to roll off above 8k, the upper limit of 35mm film optical sound tracks, in order to lower noise in that upper part of the spectrum. This is from to book 'Audio Cyclopedia', by Howard Tremaine.

Not in my frontroom. :-)
I wonder how many db down that 22Hz spec for the Bozak version was? I think maybe 40 was more like it with the Bozak 12" woofer.
Thanks mrh, I believe that lower right model was the one.

Altec had many of their systems that did double duty. Finished in grey paint for the PA crowd, or dressed up in nice veneers and grill cloth for domestic use. Same loudspeaker though.
