In my opinion there's a general negative correlation between power and sound quality in 1970s Marantz receivers. The best-sounding ones have the least power. The lowest power models are quasi-complementary, which means the output is coupled through a big nasty (but essential) electrolytic capacitor. I would go with a 2220B or a 2230, but anything up to a 2270 is pretty good equipment. If you go with one of the lower power models that are quasi-complementary, bypass the output capacitor with a 1 uF film; the highs will be immediately better.

I would avoid the 2285. It uses an oval double electrolytic filter capacitor that is no longer made. Replacing it requires making a couple of small perfboards or circuit boards. That means labor and expense.
2385, not 2285.
The 2285, some say the best sounding Marantz receiver but that is another discussion.
I only know about the caps because I recapped a $10 one a friend bought. He loves it.
an interesting evaluation. Dave brought it over, 'no relay clicking, must be broken'.
I opened it up, put it on the dim bulb and since Dave was saying no relay click, I pulled the connections to the amps and turned it on. Relay clicked but Dave didn't hear it.
Reconnected the amps and the relay clicked again so we were getting somewhere. I showed Dave the relay, very soft engagement and he doesn't hear well out of one ear so easy for him to miss.
Now with speakers connected we tried it again, nothing but screeching from one channel and horrible noises any time a control was moved in both channels. That was the best sound I have heard from a potential restoration project being evaluated. It meant that both channels worked and this unit would only need a full recap and cleaning to be a fine example of the companies products.
The caps in it were 13000µF/63V replaced with 15000µF/80V. The B model has the 6800µF dual caps in a can.
One of my favorite sounding Marantz receivers was the 2226b. I've had most of them at one point in time. With the exception of the painfully expensive big power line, like the 2500's
If I had to pick a few (not in order) I would say I liked the 2230, 2226b, 2275, 2238 (can't remember if it was b or not?), 2245
