So a Sony cdp-c77es qualifies.
Found one at a thrift shop for $30.
VERY nice shape, works perfect AND... I think I like it.
First good gear/cheap score in a long time.
Had to mention it SOMEWHERE around here...

Follow Ups:
that if you find graffiti that is 50 or more years old, it is now considered historic. And believe it or not you can't deface it.
Being 73, NOTHING digital could possibly be "vintage" imo....lol
Seems about twenty-five years is a common cutoff.
I'm old enough to know what "vintage" is supposed to mean, what it
should mean, what it means to me but not what it means given a piece
of equipment with technology that is now considered passe for most
in our hobby.
Somewhat like turntables were before being rediscovered by the mainstream.
Thusly a post in Vintage rather than a laugh fest in, say, digital.
Good with 25 years, good with 30 years, it's a vintage CDP.

you've said that you like it
since you already have an outstanding player [IMO] what contrasts have you noticed between presentations between the two?
30 years old is not vintage!
the pages of a calendar?
The CDP is not vintage but the ARC SP3A is?

It would be pages on the calendar. The SP3A is 45 years old. The CDP is 30 years old. 40 years or older is vintage. You found a nice older CDP. Enjoy it!

For 30 bucks, what's not to like? Nice score.
Nearly everything being made in the late-'80s was junk. That's when I got out of the business.

I'm not so sure about that. I recall the carriages that were made by Panasonic (?) were not only more robust but used in many consumer products. By the late 90s these were replaced across the board, by lighter, flimsier, cheaper and more plasticy components. I rebuilt one CDP and had a difficult time sourcing the better carriage cannibalizing another unit. By the late 90s the front end electronics seemed to take two different courses. Those with better engineered discrete components and those with cheaper boards and reliance on firmware.
It sucks to get old. It really sucks to get old and bitter.
