"If it's working then fades out start with the basics. Clean EVERY control surface with some DeOxit."
Why ? This is a STEREO, that means two channels. Each pot and switch in it has a duplicate in the other channel and you think the dirty ones are going to intermit at the same time ? Do you have any idea what the odds are of that ?
When both channels go out it is power supply, protection or some muting circuit gone wrong.
Follow Ups:
I know you're a tech, but holy cow! How could you even say that? You mean you have NEVER had a pot or a switch crap out on one side. Then you sir, must be the luckiest tech to ever have lived.
you know he's a tech?
his 'advice' isn't grounded in anything I've been taught, read about, observed, would take, or seemingly reality itself
ah well, carry on
with regards,
"you know he's a tech?"
Very highly paid and respected. Want references ? I got them. Want to see my condensed resume' ? It's only five pages now after I trimmed it down.
"his 'advice' isn't grounded in anything I've been taught, read about, observed, would take, or seemingly reality itself"
Then I question what you have read. I am qualified to do so. Where were you "taught ? Do you or have you ever worked in the business ? Where I worked made more money without cheating because I didn't waste time on stupid bullshit like cleaning the pots when there is smoke billowing out of the thing.
Can you read a schematic ? Can you beat over 150 applicants for a job and on the electronics test rewrite it ? I did.
My credentials are obviously better than those you have read, no matter how many letters after their names.
Say whatever you want, but stock up on crow sauce.
A receiver cuts out as if muted and you say clean the pots ? Fired.
Last two jobs I had for other people had a suspected life expectancy for new techs of about a week. I was at each for over ten years.
So the bottom line, have you ever done servicing professionally ?
There are armchair quarterbacks and apparently...
you protest excessively. Life got you down? Fix YOURSELF since you are such an accomplished techy!
"so pervasively did they speak and yet they hardly uttered a word of truth"
I'll decide what is excessive.
I spent a good part of my life sending those who only call themselves techs to jobs flipping burgers.
The proof is in the results.
mighty loud and proud too.
"so pervasively did they speak and yet they hardly uttered a word of truth"
"I know you're a tech, but holy cow! How could you even say that? You mean you have NEVER had a pot or a switch crap out on one side."
I said the exact opposite, how the hell did you get that ?
I have never seen one intermit on both sides simultaneously.
But we still should make sure it is not only on the FM if so it could be the muting. However, to crap out reliably every time on time ? Not a switch.
