Win Burhoe is one of my favorite designers, and I've got a pair of Burhoe Silver's that I hope to finally get around to rebuilding this winter.
The Burhoe Acoustics line did get some exposure in some of the annual equipment directories produced back then but I don't recall any full reviews in the mainstream mags, although I'm sure there were some. There was a LOT more interest in audio back then and given his past products it's hard to imagine there weren't some reviews.
I also own a pair of the Direct Acoustics Silent speakers and find them quite impressive, especially given the price.
Follow Ups:
I did not know that the Silvers existed until recently. They look very interesting with their side firing tweeters.
What needs to be done to rebuild them? I have a pair of Crimsons that need to have the woofers refoamed for the second time. I had the tweeters redoped about 20 years ago. Unfortunately I bought them when I was young and naive from an audio perspective.
Shortly after purchase the woofer magnet on one of the speakers fell off The store replaced the one speaker but it has a different port diameter than the other one. So I have a mismatched pair.
Woofer re-foam, xo re-cap and two of the tweeters and one of the dome mids is missing the thin black plastic (mylar?) surrounding on the faceplates. And there's always some cabinet issues that need attention.
