I just got these things yesterday, and spent a few hours working with them. Initial results are quite impressive. I didn’t notice a tremendous increase in detail, but what there was, was definitely audible. What was most striking, though, was a removing of sonic “fuzz” around vocals. My Oppo 970 is out for upgrades, so I’m using a stock Pioneer DV-563A as a stopgap. When the Stabilizers were placed atop the player, vocals became much clearer and more stable in the soundstage. Actually, I couldn’t believe the level of improvement. FWIW, I slightly preferred the two Stabilizers stacked in the center of the player, rather than placed laterally. So, basically, these things work as advertised—and, for the price, are a great deal. They’ve replaced a 25lb. bag of lead shot and two Walker lead weights.
Follow Ups:
I use the Herbie's Damping Material to sandwich my mono amps. Putting the stuff on top with weights was good, but you should try putting it together with the grungebuster between equipment and footers. Sandwiching the equipment if you may.
I don't know how Steve does it, but it works and very very well.
Steve says they mate really well with one another. I agree, together they remind me of vanilla soft-serve mated to a waffle cone. Very sexy.
I plan to, though. I have a set of gabon ebony balls and cups that I will test out. Those Clearaudio Magix are pretty amazing, though, so the bar is set pretty high. We'll see.
As I probably stated previously, I was stunned by the addition of the Stabilizers.
I recently put a set of the Gabon Ebony Gyro's in Isocup's under my preamp. More, more, and more is what I'm getting from Herbies, Xtreme AV, and Machina Dynamica. I haven't really tried much from anyone else for well over a year. A few PWB freebies, the tile tables and that's about it. PWB is the next frontier for me I think.
