Hi,
I've just acquired PS Audio UPC-200 and i plan to upgrade the receptacle to the Furutech . However, the old Furu is not available anymore. Instead, new Furutech FP-15A(Cu)-N1 B1 15A AC receptacle is available . Based on the description from cryo-parts.com , this one is more solid built, but no mention on the sound quality.
Has anyone tried it? just wondering if the sound signature is the same as the old Furu.
thanks.
Follow Ups:
Well, a (good) friend did it while I watched. Not exactly a drop-in replacement, since two of the receptacle "ears" have to be cut off to make the Furutechs fit. They replaced PS Audio Power Ports, BTW, which already had the ears cut off.
So how does it sound?
Well, assuming that the word about long break-in time is accurate, I still have about 395 hours to wait. But all I can say is that if it gets much better than this, I may not be able to handle it :-) A whole new world of clarity, dynamics, openness and "authority," for starters, assuming I'm not deluding myself (quite an assumption).
I wanted to do this because all my power cords (CryoMax III) are terminated with Furutech FI-11M(Cu) AC plugs. In any event, after a day's listening, I can strongly recommend this tweak.
Chris VH mentioned that he thinks the new Furutech FP-15A(Cu)-N1 is a very nice outlet that's perhaps 20% better than the older model FP-15A(Cu). The grip is a touch better, highs are a bit more extended, and the mids aren't quite as dark (no mention of any difference in the bass department or resolution).
I have one of the older ones and two of the new ones that I bought at the same time last month.I have not done a formal A/B of them, but the older one is theorized by some here on AA to have a more relaxed presentation. I have not noticed that difference when I switched my preamp from the regular one to an N1.
I have all of my two channel gear on the new N1's right now and they are still doing some breaking in as I did a bit of switching around with Maher Power Enhancers installations on my circuit.I would describe their impact on my system to be quite positive. They seem to engender a neutral and cleaner presentation as compared to my previously used Pass and Seymour spec grade outlets I was using which were "darker" with less detail retrieval and less depth.
These changes I describe are noticeable, but I do not wish to overstate that such a tweak transformed a previously unlistenable system into nirvannah-it was all quite good before. The new outlets enhanced the system in my opinion and I like them a lot.
I should note that I have Furutech connectors on all of my power cords and I have a dedicated line.
As always-this stuff is systemic to the unique context and system.
You can see my system in my profile. You might inquire with Lee at CryoPArts if he has done any A/B of the two Furutechs or Chris Ven Haus.
Alan Krafton is an expert also and will provide an unbiased opinion.
There is also an AA member named Robert (Radio Wonder I think) who is quite knowledgeable and and may have both of them.Good luck.
Oh, one thing I can say for sure-they take forever to break in. 400+ hours easily in my experience. Not a lot of fun.
I have not tried the N1. I do have 9 of the Furutech FP-15 (cu) outlets.
With my system I hear clear transparent midrange and open extended highs.
The Apogee speakers love the Furutechs.
LKDog,
Sounds like your Furutech outlets are breaking-in nicely.
Happy listening
Thanks, LKDog
all of my cables are also terminated with Furutech Male/Female plug as well as the receptacle on PS audio UO, except the SWO-XXX on the wall. I'll give the new furutech a try an report back. By the way, i didn't realize that new Furu takes 400+ hours to break-in...:(
I was skeptical also about the long break in.
My Odyssey Monoblock Extremes which are 70 lbs of hunks o' metal took around 400 hours. How could a little outlet take so long???
Honestly the bass kicked in at around 350-375 hours.
Maybe the long break in has something to do with the limited current draw from a digital source and preamp versus the monoblocks.
A lot of people use other methods to break in these things it appears other than just hooking up to their audio system.
Have fun. It will all sound good around September. :)
Thanks for the kind words, LK, but I don't have direct experience with the Furutech's. There is only so much time. My primary experience is with Hubbell and Oyaide outlets, with the exception of some of the Furutech AC connectors. I will say that Furutech products are very nicely made, indeed.
Btw, my last name is spelled K-A-F-T-O-N....no R. No harm, no foul. :--]
Oh, I actually meant the other AC and receptacle expert Alan Krafton.
:>
I hear he is the real expert in these matters. :)
Sorry for typo, it was late.
I do read your posts. Good info without an agenda.
