The output coupling caps were largish electrolytics, that's true.
If you are going to try to get much more time out of it, you might want to order a new laser assembly to have on hand. Fifteen years is more than most lasers last, although maybe yours has not seen much use.
JVC might not even have any left, although the fact that they made so many 1050s is a plus for replacement parts.

I'll take your suggestion of a new laser assumbly seriously. The player has seen its share of use, but not constant, that's for sure.

  You have done the correct caps. I have repalced ever resistor & cap in signal path many times on my 1991 & 92 1050's. Both run strong w/ no problems. You can do a by-pass of mostly the entire analog out section of that player also, but you need a sensitive amp & or be running a buffered linestage or active pre of sometype.Mine are switchable between modded analog out & by-passed mode thru high quality output caps. I have even ran it bypassed & thru the motorized alps for direct to amp & still by-passed no pre use. I would probablly just leave the BG's in if I were you & call it good though..My 1050's give up most nothing to my modded & output stage by-passed NOS DAC's.

    Thanks Jandg, it's a relief to know that I did the correct caps. Sounds like you know the 1050 inside and out.
    
    I think I'm going to follow your suggestion and keep the mods to a reasonable level. I just plugged in the Burr-Brown OPA-2604 op-amps a month or so ago, replacing the AD's I'd had in there for years. I bought a pair of BURR-BROWN 0PA627BP for my phono stage last week. If I end up liking the CineMag transformers better, then the OPA627's will go in the JVC 1050.
    
    The only other plans are to replace most of the electrolytics, in part because of their age. I'll probably start with the power supply first. I'm going to use Panasonic FM and FC caps. I don't want to spend what it would cost to do the whole thing in Black Gates. I save those dollars for my analog set-up!
    
    Oh yeah, I'm going to change out the power cord on the JVC as well. I'm curious about what I read here regarding power cord improvements, so it's worth a try.
