I picked up three Furutech FP 15 (cu) N1 receptacles which I am going to add to my existing dedicated circuit which already has three P and S spec grade duplexes on it.
What is best way to do this? I have read some comments about "star wiring" which I am not sure I understand.
I guess the simplistic way to do this in my thinking is to chain them together sequentially with the hot/neutral/ground going in and then out to the next receptacle/box. This would be six wires per plug except the last one which would have three. Is there an easier or better way to deal with the ground wire?
Thanks.
Follow Ups:
I prefer the pigtail configuration to using the outlet metal bridge for the feed to the following outlet. Each outlet (except the last in the chain) would be connected with a short pigtail( 6-8" of same wire).
Well, after trying various further search terms it appears that adding the higher grade Furutech outlets after the P&S outlets on the circuit is not a good idea and I should have the Furutechs first in line on the circuit.
Also did find an article which shows how to share the ground wire.
Will give that a try unless there is an alternate suggestion.
Star wiring is simply to run a separate wire from each outlet to a common point and join them all together at that point.
The best star wiring approach would be to run a separate circuit to each outlet. The wires are then joined together at the circuit breaker panel. If this is impractical, then running separate wires from each outlet into a junction box would be the next best approach. However, joining eight wires properly might require specialized tools.
The daisy-chain approach causes the power for the downstream outlet to pass into and out of each of the wiring points on the outlets ahead of it. Each junction has the possibility of adding noise and allowing power current drawn through the outlet to affect the downstream outlets.
You might be better off making a power box and feeding it from a plug.
Thanks Al. I have been working on it today.
Takes more time than I thought to do it carefully.
Am using a variation of your suggestion with the wiring of the three Furutech outlets to avoid the daisy chaining.
I moved the Pass and Seymour down the line and have the Furutechs first in the circuit.
So far so good and the circuit tester claims all connections are correct.
Will finish up tomorrow and start the break in.
