Hi All,
Doing my first DIY speaker and am getting prepped for the crossover construction....and I could really use your advice, input, and opinions, please. I ordered Audiocap Thetas & the rest were "Dayton Precision 1% Metallized Polypropylene Capacitors"... and have a question that may be silly....please don't laugh too loud...thank you. I have done searches here and elswhere, and came up empty....maybe I'm searching for the wrong things??
- My question is, do I have to concern myself with which end of the cap is connected to the +/- legs? Should they sound better/worse one way vs. the other when in a crossover application?
I recall reading that some differences can be noted with the directionality of inductors in crossovers (i.e. connecting the lead nearest the center of the coil to +/- vs. lead on the outside of the coil....though I can't recall which is supposedly better...I have the discussion printed, at home, sitting next to my crossover parts.)
So I wonder if there might be any differences w/these caps in crossovers.... If there are, is there a simple way to test? I have a multimeter, though I'm a relative noobie to working w/electronics (My major accomplisment to date in this realm is that I have made a Bottlehead Foreplay 3 that worked on my first try!!)
Thank you all for your help!
Best Regards,
Doug

I have tried both inductor and Theta long time ago. If I am right, the outer end of inductor will connect to + or as In whereas inner end is - or Out. For right direction, inductor will sound fuller. For another direction, it will sound smaller and thinner.
Theta does have directional too. The "Audio" side is "In" or + and "Cap" side is "Out" or -. Can't remember for difference of Theta in both directions.
Hope this help
