Well, this is my new tuner and I can recommend it. It is an Emotiva UMC-1 Home Theater Processor. They seem to be going for cheap prices on craigslist or ebay. All I can say is I think it is pretty good. I can listen to it for long stretches. My bug-out system has an Audiolab 8000t tuner which has rather spoiled me.
Why does it sound so good? Well, it seems to have a very serious power supply. I even see two transformers inside, one for the control circuit and a toroid for everything else.
It doesn't show the station after a short while and I have yet to figure out how to add and delete presets, except that the auto scan got what I wanted. Yep, it is a beast of connections and undecipherable user options, but it goes to the last preset played when I turn it on, which is all I need right now.

I had a UMC-1. Couldn't tolerate the sound - lower mid-fi like. Compressed, no dynamics, no extension at either end of the frequency range.
Couldn't sell it in good conscience so I gave it away. That was it for me and Emotiva...
Nice. I used to be an FM tuner guy but the quality of FM stations become so poor I do not listen now.
i only listen to community owned fm......no commercial fm...
Tell us about it please - local programming?? volunteer?
