Hi Radio Heads,
I have been a regular reader on the Planar Asylum and know nothing about tuners. So I need your help in setting the value of a Sequerra Model 1 Tuner that I was given 10 years ago. It was used by a friend that has since developed dementia so I cannot go to him for any help. It has not been turned on for 18 years. What should I do with this? Any help would be appreciated.

Let's see.
You got it for nothing and now want to determine if it's worth "something"
In a few years, FM will be dead, and any FM tuner will only be worth something from an "Audio Jewelry" perspective.
So find someone who will appreciate it and give it to them. With the proviso that if they do sell it you get the proceeds

Getting on my soapbox.
FM is not going away. Not unless there is a country wide availability of free unlimited cell phone data, that covers every part of geography FM does today. See that happening soon? Think AT&T and Verizon are on board with that? Wifi? In a car on the highway? Free Sirius XM? don't think so.
HD radio? - a useless joke, going nowhere, fast. Those receivers require a Ibiquity royalty license fee on both transmit and receive end, that many smaller stations can't afford. Standard trim new cars under $25-30K today still don't have it.
FM (and AM) are still considered a US government emergency broadcast medium for national emergencies, and are many times more accessible to low income folks than HDTV.
I have heard people say the exact same thing here, in this forum, going back 20 years. Guess what? FM did not go away then, and won't now. Receivers are dirt cheap, reception is free, and any replacement will need to meet that standard. Not happening soon. And lastly, FM takes up such a tiny slice of bandwidth, compared to analog TV, the government will never "sell it".
Okay, stepping off. :-)
Different down here in Oz, but similar story.
And live direct broadcasts of acoustic music are a high-end source.

Day Sequerra accepts tuners for revision and repair, located in Southern NJ, they will even send you a box.
I did this, but hand delivered to them a Reference Tuner....Day Sequerra tuners pop up on Ebay sometimes and you can search older transactions to better determine value.....functional operationally or otherwise, but get the transporting box.
Only some intrinsic value.
Real value will be what someone is willing to pay. Depending on expectations, that could be either good or bad news!
Too much is never enough
Usually modern caps don't go "dry" like in the old days of tube radios. If run hot or for a long time they can go bad, but bad ones in solid state tuners are somewhat rare. I would get a current meter like Kill-a-watt P4400 for $20. Plug into the meter and start it up, watching amps closely. If the meter reads close to the nameplate current on the back, it is likely OK.
You could also remove the cover and inspect inside before turning it on. Then observe as it powers up.
It would be informative to post photos of the unit, lit up and working.

Travis, you are correct, but this Tuner has not been powered up in over many years years. I am afraid to cause damage by doing so. And the only repair service I trust is nearly 80 miles away in Tampa. I live in Orlando, so if you or anyone else can suggest a repair facility to correctly power up and test this unit in Orlando I'd consider taking it there. I can post pictures of the un powered tuner as soon as I teach myself how. Thanks, Dave in Orlando
I have taken the liberty of posting your request on https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/fmtuners/info, a group of knowledgeable enthusiasts who may be able to help you. Good Luck!

Trying again to load a second Photo
Thanks again
Nice looking tuner. Sorry about your friend.
To post multiple images, you have to do a "Preview Message" after each one. That allows you to add one image each time you preview.
Good luck with the sale.
