I messed again with my rooftop antenna replacing an old TV UHF unit which I hanged a few years ago with new 4 element Yagi from Newark. My hopes were shortly lived. With old partially defunct hospital in a way it's hopeless and my aligned Yamaha T2 shows 20% signal quality and the noise is very present no mater where I aim the antenna. I get pretty much the same results with 300 Ohm indoor antenna made out of balanced cable on the second floor of the house.

You just need to install the antenna on top of that hospital. If you need a volunteers to form a midnight crew to help install the antenna and burying the cable to your house, let me know. I would enjoy a good clandestine operation right about now....

Did you replace the lead-in wire?
If not is the original in good shape - 300 ohm twinlead or coax?

Just making sure...the longest element needs to be at the rear.
Make sure co-ax is rg-6, read the jacket, and fairly new and not water-soaked. Center wire at ends need to be at least flush or sticking out slightly.
It's a coax and in good shape. I will try to add 5 ft. to the height of the mast. If that won't help I will just take it for what it is.
So as Timbo said, put a higher mast and you will be good to go! maybe try a telescoping mast?

I thought about it. Not sure its going to help much. I have to check the height of the Hospital structure.
Don't remember the specs of rotator so I'm not sure which part of the mast to extend eventually .The one going to the rotator or going out of it.

...in your case it looks like it's to the chimney, so the mast which the antenna is connected to has to be the one which rotates.
I went with a 5-foot tripod instead of a 3-foot model, to gain a bit of extra height. I looked into longer masts, but there's recommended guidelines about when guy-wiring starts to become necessary, and I wasn't anxious to start dealing with all that.
That's too bad that you've got that building obstructing you, but it appears that you'd need a free-standing tower to crest it.

Yep guy wiring would be required. A total pain.

DXing is nice, but not worth the trouble and expense of guy wires to support a taller mast, to gain a bit of extra reception, at least not to me.

Guess I am lucky.Line of Sight clearly matters, especially, close to.
