For the era that is. Maybe somewhat common. It's not bridging it's connecting an internal antenna to the antenna input. Then allowing it to be disconnected when you use a real antenna. Follow Eli's instructions, better yet just nix the internal turd. It's as good as one of those clamped on the AC cord types (not very) but dangerous as Eli said.

I own seven (7) different brands of tuners from before, during, and after that era, and none of them have that internal antenna feature that this Lafayette has. That's why I wrote, "Unusual to me, anyway".

As for your "It's not bridging", Webster defines bridge as "a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle (such as a river) a bridge connecting the island to the mainland"

Since there's a movable connection which can jumper between the INT and EXT terminals, I'd say that qualifies as bridging that gap, creating an electrical pathway.

  My first "hi-fi", a Realistic Modulate had something similar. It was a birthday gift circa 71-72. A wire from inside with a spade lug was an internal antenna.

  No I'm not feeling contradictory. Seen a few pieces that way. Of course you can leave the internal antenna connected when an external is connected. Probably not as good as just the assumed better external.
